Past: Member of South African Student Organisation, SASO; Detained in 1976 under Section 22 of Security Act, later under Section 6 & put under solitary confinement; Sentenced to 4 years by the then regime for public violence & arson of which 2 years was suspended for 5 years; Served in various prisons: Grahamstown, PE, Middleburg Cape Prison, Pretoria Central Prison; Released in 1980; Deployed by ANC as volunteer in SA Allied Workers Union (SAWU); Joined underground structures of ANC, SACP & SACTU inside country; Continued to work in exile in: Lesotho, Mozambique, Bulgaria (trade union training) 1981-1982, Zambia (SACTU Headquarters) 1980; Soviet Union Institute of Social Sciences (Political Training) 1980-1984, Angola (military training) 1986; Assisted in the strengthening of COSAS; Deployed back in SA (Western Cape) in 1987; Arrested under Section 26 of Security Act, and again for terrorism & treason

Current: Member of the ANC National Executive Committee; Member of the Political Committee in ANC Caucus in Parliament; Member of the NEC Sub- committee on Communications; Member of the NEC Sub- committee on Governance and Legislature; ANC Lizo Nkonki Branch, Gugulethu (Cape Town); Working with community HIV-Aids organisations organising Christmas food parcels for people living with HIV/Aids in Danoon & Gugulethu;
