The African National Congress in Parliament congratulates ANC MP comrade Dr Chana Pilane-Majake for being awarded a Doctor of Literature and Philosophy (DLitt et Phil) from the University of South Africa (UNISA). As a community and gender activist, her research focuses on strategies to optimise integration of women and HIV/AIDS issues in the mandate of the Commission for Gender Equality.

Comrade Dr Pilane-Majake is no stranger in the world of academia. She has extensive lecturing experience from the University of Limpopo and as a visiting lecturer at the University of Zululand teaching Human Rights and Development Studies.

Her academic journey started with a Bachelor's degree & Honours degree from the University of Limpopo and a Diploma in Development Studies from Stanford University, California, USA. She attained her Master's Degree in Social Science from the University of Zululand.

Comrade Dr Pilane-Majake is currently serving as the ANC Whip on Justice and Correctional Services and Cluster Whip for the Peace and Stability cluster. She joined Parliament in 2012 after being the Chief Executive Officer for the Commission on Gender Equality, a position she held for eight years between 2002 and 2010 before joining VIP Consulting Engineers as Executive Director.

Before joining the Commission on Gender Equality in 2002, she worked for the European Union Foundation for Human Rights in South Africa as Gender and Children Consultant, funding human rights organizations to further cultivate the culture of human rights in South Africa.

The ANC in Parliament is very proud of this academic achievement. We are inspired by the commitment, dedication and passion for excellence Dr Pilane-Majake has demonstrated in pursuit and completion of her academic studies.

When asked where to from here? Her answer was: "To continue to serve my people."
