Condolence Motion on 10 People Killed In A Shooting And Subsequent Accident In Ladysmith

The African National Congress moves without notice: That the House

1) notes the death of 10 people following the ambushed vehicle that lost control and crashed into an oncoming vehicle believed to be carrying teachers and pupils;
2) understands that this incident happens near Ladysmith on Tuesday 31 October 2017;
3) believes that the car that was ambushed was carrying the official of the Klip River Taxi Association, his daughter, two bodyguards and a driver;
4) further believes that a taxi conflict over routes is believed to have sparked the shooting;
5) understands that all the five people in the bakkie have died and five other people who were travelling in the kombi also died, whilst those seriously injured were rushed to the hospital;
6) condemns the use of violence in solving differences in the taxi industry;
7) supports the police investigations on the matter and calls for speedily apprehension of those behind this tragedy; and
8) conveys its condolences to the deceased families and wishes those injured a speedy recovery.
