Condolence Motion on 23 People Killed In Mogadishu Hotel

The African National Congress moves without notice: That the House

1) notes with sadness the killing of 23 people and 11 wounded by a suicide car bomb which exploded outside a popular hotel in Somalia's capital on Saturday, 28th October 2017;
2) further notes that some of the deaths were caused by a second blast which occurred in the area minutes later, as well as the gunfire within the hotel;
3) commends the security forces of Somalia for their intervention in ending a night-long siege at a Mogadishu hotel and stormed the building killing three attackers and capturing two alive;
4) recalls that this massacre happens just a few weeks after the twin truck bombs which killed more than 270 people and injured hundreds Mogadishu;
5) believes that terrorism is not a solution to solve political, economic, social nor religious issues;
6) calls on the African Union to find ways to deal with increasing acts of terrorism that seem to engulf Africa;
8) conveys its condolences to the families of the deceased and the Government of Somalia; and wishes those that are injured a speedy recovery.
