X Mabasa

The ANC believes that the development of small businesses and co-operatives are a critical measure to empower our people, draw new entrants into the economy, strengthen inclusive growth, build the social economy, encourage social solidarity and create large numbers of jobs. We therefore welcome Government commitments to allocate R1 billion to the newly announced fund for Small and Medium Enterprises as this will lead to the empowerment of small businesses, especially those in the townships.

This allocation of R1 billion to the newly announced fund for Small and Medium Enterprises, together with the ANC Government National Informal Business Upliftment Strategy designed to assist township enterprises upgrade their business activities, are necessary instruments to scale up support and expand the number and viability of co-operatives and small businesses to achieve our development vision.

The ANC Government is implementing key elements of this strategy to boost township enterprises increase their involvement in the economy, as well as to expand opportunities for township entrepreneurs.

I thank
