Motion on Death of 8 Year Old Boy after Paramedics Ambushed En Route to Hospital

The African National Congress moves without notice: That the House

1) notes with sadness the death of an eight-year-old boy after the ambulance he was being transported in, came under attack on the N2 highway on Wednesday 8 November 2017;
2) believes that the child was picked up early on Wednesday morning after he had been injured in a road collision;
3) further believes that the Western Cape government health ambulance, on its way to Red Cross War Memorial Children`s Hospital, was ambushed on Borchards Quarry;
4) understands that the crew was held at gun point and robbed, and the ambulance was left immobile;
5) further understands that the eight-year-old patient passed away due to the delay caused by the robbery;
6) condemns the increasing attacks on emergency medical service personnel while they are on duty; and
7) conveys its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased child.
