Basic Education Hands Over Bhekisizwe Primary School in Mqanduli

JV Basson

The Department of Basic Education's Accelerated Schools Infrastructure Delivery Initiative (ASIDI) programme which aims to eradicate backlogs in school infrastructure, continues to provide sustainable change to rural education. The latest official hand-over of Bhekisiwe Primary School outside Mqanduli, Eastern Cape on Friday 10 November 2017 is a practical example of this committment. With the hand-over of this R 28 Million school ASIDI continues to play a vital role in eradicating mud schools and restoring dignity to rural education.

The Accelerated Schools Infrastructure Delivery Initiative, was established with the aim of eradicating backlogs in school infrastructure in the 2010-14 strategic planning period and beyond. This is to be carried out by applying a combination of strategies for immediate and medium-term improvements in infrastructure delivery. It also aims to upgrade the standard of schools to meet the optimum functionality levels prescribed by the Norms and Standards for Schools Infrastructure. The African National Congress commends the work done by the Department of Basic Education on improving the quality of education. We call upon community members to prioritise the safety of the schools and infrastructure.

I thank you
