Sad passing of Mama Mthembu

27 February 2018

The African National Congress in Parliament has learned with great sadness of the passing of Mama Mthembu - the mother of the ANC Chief Whip, comrade Jackson Mthembu, this past Sunday.
Comrade Mthembu's mother, Nantoni Rosie Mthembu, affectionately known as Gogo Mthembu, was born on 01 January 1939 in the old township of Emasakeni in Witbank, Mpumalanga Province.

She was married with 12 children, comrade Mthembu being the first born. She spent most of her life working as a domestic worker on a farm where she became the breadwinner for her family from a young age. She was a committed church member and a pillar of her community.

She leaves behind her four remaining children, two brothers, 30 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be held this Saturday, 03 March 2018 at her home, 3208 Masemola Street, Ackerville Township, Emalahleni (Witbank) starting at 09h00. It will then proceed for burial at Old Pretoria Road Memorial Park (Overline), Witbank, at 12h00 - 13h00.

The ANC Parliamentary Caucus extends its sincerest condolences to the Mthembu family. We also express gratitude for the messages of condolences received from many South Africans including leaders of all opposition parties in Parliament.
