Resignation of Cde Malusi Gigaba as an ANC MP

15 November 2018

The Office of the ANC Chief Whip confirms the resignation of former Minister of Home Affairs, comrade Malusi Gigaba, as a Member of Parliament, effective 13 November 2018.

Comrade Gigaba became a member of Parliament for the ANC in 1999 and during that period he also served as a member of the Trade and Industry Portfolio Committee; Joint Monitoring Committee on the Quality of Life and Status of Children, Youth and Disabled Persons; and as an alternate member of the Portfolio Committee on Agriculture and Land Affairs.

He then joined the National Executive in 2004 as Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and subsequently served as Minister of Public Enterprises and Minister of Finance.

"It was indeed my honour and privilege to have been of service to our people in this High Office. I am also grateful that my organisation afforded me this honour," said comrade Gigaba.

The ANC Chief Whip has thanked comrade Gigaba for his distant service to the people of South Africa and the African National Congress.

"We appreciate the fact that comrade Gigaba has put the interests of the ANC and that of the country first, which has informed his line of action. This is what we expect from any cadre of our glorious movement, of which comrade Gigaba has remained true to," said ANC Chief Whip, comrade Jackson Mthembu.

We wish him well in his future endeavours.

Issued by the Office of the ANC Chief Whip, comrade Jackson Mthembu.
